 Wow, 2009 is flying by! It's amazing to think that we are nearly halfway through the year. We have been working on some very exciting projects this year. As many know, our most exciting "project" has been the birth of our baby girl, Emma (see more below). This spring, we are excited to be in production on testimonial videos to support the Kaiser Permanente Medical Weight Management Program; we have also had the fortune of producing a video for Togos to advertise their franchising opportunities; James has been flying around the country working on a number of projects while the staff have kept the office abuzz editing a full-length documentary and working with our new client Skanska. We are also excited to announce the return of True Bass! In 2008, SIMZ produced 16 episodes of True Bass. True Bass will be returning this summer in a re-vamped format for the internet. Stay tuned! It seems that the economic news is getting a little rosier as the weather warms up, so let's just hope that the upward trend continues and we all have a successful year in business! |
SIMZ Goes HD!  We are thrilled to announce that we've had the opportunity to begin shooting and editing high definition video this year using the Sony XDCam format. What's so great about high definition? The picture quality is phenomenal - so crisp and beautiful - resulting in stunning imagery for any type of video. Providing clients with high definition footage isn't just about buying a new camera. By moving to HD, we've had to upgrade our editing systems and significantly shift our work flow to accomodate a "tapeless" system. Instead of mini-DV or DVCam, we now shoot on small 8- or 16-gigabyte cards and then transfer the footage over to an external hard drive or alternate storage system. Our "tape room" at SIMZ will eventually be our "archive room" and contain not tapes, but hundreds of external hard drives and DVD disks containing raw HD footage.  Client Highlight - Skanska Building USA One of the largest projects we've been working on this year has been with Skanska Building USA, one of the world's leading construction groups with expertise in construction, development of commercial and residential projects and public-private partnerships.
Skanska has spent the last year renovating and building the State of California's Central Plant which is responsible for heating and cooling the 23 state buildings located in the Sacramento city core. Their contract requires the production of videos to train current and future staff of the Central Plant, and we've had the good fortune of winning the contract to develop those training videos. In total, we anticipate recording hundreds of hours of video footage and editing Blu-ray DVDs as well as providing web-ready video for the state's online training system. Production is already well under way and we anticipate that post-production will wrap up late summer. |

Emma Elena was born on April 6, weighing in at 7 lbs., 2 oz. Already two months old, she is a joy, smiling and cooing more every day. Until she can work behind-the-scenes, look for her cameo appearances in videos over the coming years! |
